PILGRIMAGE TO LODONGA MINOR BASILICA

The Catholic faithful of St. Arnoldus Janssen Parish, Ariwa, Diocese of Arua, Uganda, joyfully and fervently took part in the Pilgrimage to the Lodonga Minor Basilica in celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on December 8, 2025.

This year, around 800 pilgrims were sent from various chapels across five zones of St. Arnold Janssen Parish, including many who are refugees from the Bidibidi Settlement. A significant number of them traveled long distances on foot, a profound expression of faith, sacrifice, and deep devotion.

This historic moment was also witnessed and shared by thousands of faithful from various parishes and dioceses, including pilgrims from neighboring countries.

In this grace-filled journey, the parish community is grateful for the opportunity to attend the Holy Mass at the Lodonga Minor Basilica—a Mass specially dedicated to all refugees, most of whom come from our Parish.

The Mass was presided over by the Parish Priest, Fr. Woijcieech, SVD, and was attended by many refugee faithful. It was a deeply moving moment as refugees gathered in one prayer, one hope, and one spirit, united as one family of St. Arnoldus Janssen Parish, Ariwa.

At the peak of the celebration—the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 8)—the Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki, Bishop of the Diocese of Arua.

Through this pilgrimage, it is our sincere hope that the faith of the christians may be refreshed, strengthened, and renewed. May the simplicity, purity of heart, readiness, and holiness of the Blessed Virgin Mary inspire the faithful, strengthen their spiritual journey, and draw them ever closer to God.

“Mary, Immaculate Mother, pray for us.”
